THe South's Secession - Getting out of the Union
The south’s secession was when the south formally withdrew from the Union. The state that first did this was South Carolina. This included the following secession of the states: Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. Then more followed suit: Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
Secession After ElectionAfter Lincoln's election, many very southern states like South Carolina and the ones shown in blue, were very enticed to create a new revolution, in which there would be the creation of a new nation. Thus, at many conventions and meetings, they organized and planned to create the Confederate States of America. Quoted from the Charleston Mercury, "The tea has been thrown overboard, the revolution of 1860 has been initiated."

The fall of Fort Sumter and its seizure from the Union was a key event, caused after their election of Jefferson Davis as leader of the Confederacy. They said that the United States in their lands, was dissolved, and refused to do anything to fix it. The fall of Fort Sumter convinced the rest of the southern states that wanted to leave. Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Arkansas all seceded, kicking off the Civil War.
