Causes
The first that led up to the Compromises of 1850 is the rule of Congress that lasted ten years. In the ten years that Congress ruled, no rules about slavery would be passed. The second thing was the southern fears- made laws about slavery. The third thing was the fugitive slaves. There were no strict laws that made them go back to the south. The fourth thing was the Wilmot Proviso. The fifth and final thing that led up to the Compromises of 1850 was the California Statehood.
Effects
The first effect of the Compromises of 1850 was that California was admitted to the Union as a free state. The second effect was that Northwest Missouri and Utah could become slave states. The third effect was that Washington D.C had to end slave trade in Washington D.C itself. The fourth and final effect of the Compromises of 1850 was that more stricter fugitive slave laws were made.
